Artists Capturing Nature and A Part of History

In celebration of our first and very successful year, Artists in the Parks (AiP) and Bear Mountain Inn management firm Guest Services will be holding a special two day exhibit at Overlook Lodge in Bear Mountain, NY on Saturday and Sunday, Nov 21-22, 2009. The press and patrons are invited to see the work of this skilled, diverse, and dedicated group of artists, as well as purchase their work.

Artists in the Parks, an initiative of the Palisades Interstate Park Commission, is raising scenic awareness and funds for the Palisades Parks Conservancy (PPC) to support their conservation, preservation, and education initiatives as the funding partner with the Palisades Commission. 40% of the proceeds of the sold artwork will be donated to the Conservancy. The artwork, a combination of paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, and rustic craft is inspired by the surrounding areas and park lands in the Palisades Region. One of the group's missions is to nurture a love, understanding, and respect for the natural world. Purchasing artwork from an AiP artist is not only an investment in an original work of art of potential historic value, but also serves as an investment in our region's magnificent parklands. AiP members have a special opportunity to be part of a movement that has been going strong since the early 1900's to preserve and capture nature as it stands.

Artists invited into “Arts in Healthcare” Program PDF Print E-mail

Experienced Orange County artists from various disciplines are invited to participate in a
working seminar on the Arts and Healthcare.  A combination of think tank and field
research, the seminar will develop the artist’s knowledge and experience in new
approaches to programming in arts and healthcare, particularly in services to veterans.  A
introductory informational session is scheduled for both October 20 and 21 from 7-8 pm
at the Orange County Citizen’s Foundation in Sugarloaf, NY.

This specialized training program is made possible by an Orange County grant to Artists
in the Parks, a program of the Palisades Interstate Park Commission that positions artists
as essential partners in the conservation, education, and community initiatives of New
York State Parks. Orange County Tourism and the County of Orange will support Artists
in the Parks as they train Orange County artists to work in non-traditional teaching
situations, particularly with Orange County veterans and their families and in other arts
and healthcare programs in hospitals, clinics, hospice and community settings.

Artists trained in the program will be eligible to work in the Arts for Vets program and
other arts in service programs under development in by the Orange County Arts Council.
