Artists Capturing Nature and A Part of History
In celebration of our first and very successful year, Artists in the Parks (AiP) and Bear Mountain Inn management firm Guest Services will be holding a special two day exhibit at Overlook Lodge in Bear Mountain, NY on Saturday and Sunday, Nov 21-22, 2009. The press and patrons are invited to see the work of this skilled, diverse, and dedicated group of artists, as well as purchase their work.
Artists in the Parks, an initiative of the Palisades Interstate Park Commission, is raising scenic awareness and funds for the Palisades Parks Conservancy (PPC) to support their conservation, preservation, and education initiatives as the funding partner with the Palisades Commission. 40% of the proceeds of the sold artwork will be donated to the Conservancy. The artwork, a combination of paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, and rustic craft is inspired by the surrounding areas and park lands in the Palisades Region. One of the group's missions is to nurture a love, understanding, and respect for the natural world. Purchasing artwork from an AiP artist is not only an investment in an original work of art of potential historic value, but also serves as an investment in our region's magnificent parklands. AiP members have a special opportunity to be part of a movement that has been going strong since the early 1900's to preserve and capture nature as it stands.
The show will be staged at Bear Mountain State Park's Overlook Lodge, which along with the WPA era Stone Cottages have recently undergone major renovations under the direction of Guest Services, Inc. who took over the management of the complex this year. Amenities include 24-guest rooms at the Overlook Lodge, six guest rooms in each of the four stone cottages, and over 5,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
The opening reception, Saturday the 21st 3-9 PM welcomes AiP members, their family, friends, guests, and patrons. A cash bar and buffet will be available for patrons and other viewers.
The show will also be open Sunday, November 22nd 11 AM to 2:30 PM while Sunday Brunch is open to the public. The Sunday Brunch offers an array of chilled salads, smoked salmon display, made-to-order omelets, lavish desserts and much more. Complimentary champagne, Mimosa, or Bloody Mary. , $26.95 per person., $15.95 Children (ages 6-12)/Age 5 and under free.
