Artists in the Parks is proud to announce that we have received a $4000 grant from Orange Arts to train 15 selected AiP members to work as teaching artists with military families and returning veterans. AiP will partner with the Orange County Arts Council "Arts for Vets" program to create corps of teaching artists who will be specially trained to share their artistic skills as part of a healing process. The grant money will be used to pay a professional arts-integration specialist, a PTSD specialist, an art therapist, and a VA representative to lead workshops with AiP members, as well as for art supplies to be used by vets and their families. Artwork by the corps of trained AiP teaching artists will be part of a traveling exhibit to sites such as the Purple Heart Hall of Honor, Fort Montgomery Battle Site, and local hospitals to publicize the program and provide information about the potential power of nature and art in the healing process. AiP members, please keep an eye on your email, as we'll be requesting applications within the month! |
